Ode to a Woman

I felt the need to write this poem on Women’s Day when we were having a contest in our office in Whitefield-Bangalore, where we were supposed to write a few lines honoring the contributions of our female colleagues. I felt lucky to have the kind of women colleagues I’d had thus far and I wanted to say something in recognition of the fruitfulness of that relationship.

When there was darkness of hope no ray,
You were there to show the way.

Through the trials and tribulations that did last,
With a salve beside me you stood steadfast.

While the others, though they came & went,
With me only you, your time spent.

When I first did taste success,
With me true joy did you express.

O Woman! How true thy friendship!
How deeply I feel thy kinship.

O fountain of kindness! Countless thanks to thee!
Without you today, where would I be?
