At my office in Whitefield-Bangalore one day, I received a call from my mother informing me about the death of our dog ‘Lassie’ in Cochin-Kerala. Since I couldn’t be there to bid her farewell, I was prompted to write this poem as a fitting tribute to an animal that was a member of our family for about fourteen years..
I bid you farewell, my faithful friend,
‘tis a sorrow, this journey should end.
Now no more heard, no more seen,
You leave behind a void so keen.
Though a memory now, your friendly face,
In my heart, you will remain always.
Adieu then! Companion of my boyhood years,
I bid you farewell with silent tears.
