Kargil Soldier’s Call

I wrote this poem as a dedication to the martyrs of the Kargil War on the day of Kargil Vijay Divas (Kargil Victory Day) 2018. The inspiration for the poem was a post by my school classmate Ms.Nidhi Nath.

My countrymen, today these mountains silently lie,
Our sacrifices their calm and beauty belie.

Among these mountains many lives did end,
As valiantly our country we did defend.

From home and family though called away,
With steely hearts did we hold sway.

In the enemy’s heart fear we sowed,
With thunder and shouts these rocks echoed.

For others what were maps and names,
For us were hard fought fiery games.

When the dust and smoke did end,
Blood and gore did etch a legend.

To country our promise did we keep,
Ours’ shed tears lest others’ kin weep.

Years from now when our stories fade,
When only our names and photos displayed.

Never forget that ‘twas here we fought,
With our today, your tomorrow was bought.
