Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

As I have mentioned before, the subconscious mind is like a small child. One of the ways of communicating feelings to a small child is through touch. Many a time, the child gets more reassurance from the touch than the actual words being spoken during the touch. Hence, touch is a very important aspect of communication in human beings and the same touch can also be used for communicating to the subconscious mind. And one of the important techniques of effectively communicating with the subconscious mind through touch is the Emotional Freedom Technique (Mercola). The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a kind of psychological acupressure which makes use of energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture for treating physical and emotional maladies, the only difference is that here finger tips are used instead of needles.

EFT can be used in combination with positive affirmations and it deepens the impact of the positive affirmations on the subconscious mind. EFT involves tapping with the fingertips to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you speak your positive affirmations (Mercola). This method of tapping the energy medians while saying your positive affirmations helps to push those affirmations deeper into your subconscious mind which will then start finding ways to make those affirmations a reality (Murphy). So f you are planning to start using the positive affirmations technique then EFT is really something that completes the effect that positive affirmations are trying to bring about on the subconscious.

EFT can be done by using two fingers of one hand to tap repeatedly on the pressure points such as top of the head, the eyebrow, the side of the eye, under the eye, nose, chin, collar bone and under Arm. While tapping, say your positive affirmations aloud and complete at least three rounds of tapping & positive affirmations. So if you’re going to do the tapping/pos-itive affirmation routine I suggest you find a place where you can be alone. In my case, I do my tapping/positive affirmations routine after reaching my office car park. I sit in the car and finish my tapping/positive affirmations routine before I enter office. From my experience I have found that doing this before office reduces any prework blues that I might have usually had and helps me to enter office in a neutral mindset.

My favourite EFT tapping session is included in the resources section. The session involves making the positive affirmation “Even though I’m perfectly fine the way I am right now, I still feel that something wonderful is about to happen to me. Even though I’m grateful for all the things I have right now, I still feel that something wonderful is about to happen to me”. I feel this affirmation is a very cute and mild one but one which leaves the door open for any number of surprising things to happen to you. There is a lot of material available on the Net about EFT, so feel free to delve deeper into this subject if you feel that you need to.
